Having returned to racing in competitive form this season, Gypsy Diamond ($2.90) has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in 2015 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Mighty Lucky ($5.50), Woodbine and Le Cordon Bleu; currently sharing the third line at a quote of $6 each.

Will Gypsy Diamond justify her resounding favouritism and win the 2015 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap, or will one of her classy rivals hit the line in the clear?

Laser Hawk ($9)

A Group 1 winner, Laser Hawk has been charged with carrying a race-high 59kgs in the 2015 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap but will leave from the ideal barrier 6 and has been confirmed to be partnered by leading jockey Hugh Bowman; as a result offering punters exceptional value at $9 for success. Beginning his racing tenure under the guidance of Gai Waterhouse and posting several impressive results including success in the 2012 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and third in both the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m), the Artie Schiller gelding returned for a close second in the 2013 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap before being forced into the paddock for nearly 18 months with a severe tendon injury. Having returned for Chris Waller last spring for a four race preparation highlighted by a third place finish in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m), Laser Hawk is a proven performer over track and distance.

Gypsy Diamond ($2.90)

Unlucky not to break through for a maiden victory at the highest level over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Gypsy Diamond is likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 2 this afternoon and is weighted well at just 54kgs. Winning the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and finishing an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) most notably through autumn, the Not A Single Doubt mare was unable to make an impact through the Spring Racing Carnival, but returned for an impressive third amongst classy company in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) on February 28th.

Scorpio Queen ($21)

A noted performer in black type events are more regional racecourses, Scorpio Queen undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money in 2015 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap betting markets at current odds, and is a leading chance of finishing in the first three. Steadily building to the task over the 2014 autumn; placing sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) before a luckless performance when blocked for a run in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in winter, the local placed ninth in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Handicap (1200m) first-up and is sure to take great condition from the competitive hit-out.
